American Hustle big winner on the film side, while Amy and Tina make the Golden Globes another Great Show

What more can I say other than I love Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, these two women are genius whether its digging at George Clooney for never dating women his own age, or having Amy play a fake Mr. Golden Globe searching through the audience for her celebrity daddy going to both Idris Elba, and Harvey Weinstein.  Thank goodness these two are signed on for another year at least.  

How can you narrow down the speeches, there were so many great ones, namely because they honor people who do no always win, or have never won.  My favorite as a lover of all things Woody Allen was Diane Keaton accepting the Cecille B. DeMille Award on behalf of of one of the greatest living artists.  Keaton a long time friend of Allen and a vision for many of his films gave some of best incites into why Woody Allen who has made 70 plus films in 47 years is one of the best.

On to the winners....

12 Years a Slave wins best Drama. but that was the only prize it took home tonight, Best Drama usually wins at least one other prize, but in a state of shock Steve McQueen was correct he was not expecting the win nor was I, when the film came out empty handed everywhere else. Gravity won Best Director.  I am shocked at the lack of awards for Slave, looking back on this year it may be a big mistake not honor this film.  Lead Actor went to Matthew McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club, and Jared Leto won Supporting Actor for the same film.  Cate Blanchett won Lead Actress for Blue Jasmine.

On the Comedy side American Hustle took home 3 prizes, Best Comedy/Musical, Lead Actress in a Musical or Comedy for Amy Adams, and Supporting Actress for Jennifer Lawrence.  Two things surprise me about this, one Hustle did not win Screenplay, honor went to Her written by Spike Jonez.  The real surprise was that Jonez stated in his speech said David O. Russell helped him edit, hey O. Russell what happened to your editing on American Hustle?  The other surprise is that women win in a film about me where the women are the window dressing in a film about men.  American Hustle was in fact the top prize winner of the night, will it win Best Picture, its the front runner. 

Leonardo DiCaprio won Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, and Inside Llewyn Davis and Nebraska took home nothing.  Will Leo bump Robert Redford of that fifth spot, probably.

With the television awards, the HFPA said "Hello" and "Goodbye."  The Globes typically are the award show to put new shows on the map, they that tonight with the comedy categories picking Brooklyn Nine-Nine for Best Comedy/Musical, and Andy Samburg for Lead Actor in a Comedy/Musical.  They also said goodbye to a show they never seemed to like, but finally admitted its greatness, and that's Breaking Bad, which won Best Drama, and Bryan Cranston won Lead Actor in a Drama series.

The big surprises came in the Lead Actress categories, Amy Poehler who I predicted, although many predicted Julia Louis-Dreyfus may have become one of the first hosts to win a trophy.  House of Cards was nominated for 4 awards, and the least likely winner, won.  Robin Wright took home Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

The supporting television categories went to veteran players Jon Voight and Jacqueline Bissett, who had what will be seen as one of the most memorable speeches at the Globes.

At the end of the day the big winners are Starz and Netflix, who got their first wins at the Golden Globes.  The Globes have always honored unique choices in television, they stay fresh, which often makes their winners better.
